Lesotho staff and students plant new congregation

We are blessed to participate in what God is doing in Lesotho. The BVBI Maseru is still moving in its lane of producing doctrinally sound preachers. 12 baptisms were recorded.  6 courses were taught with an average of 14 students. A congregation was planted.

The school in Maseru exists to produce competent preachers to train Christians in evangelism and discipleship. Several congregations are ministered by some of the students, their members are engaging in evangelism. This is a positive move in the congregations in Lesotho since evangelism was left in the hands of preachers in the past. Thus, the instructors are working hard to ensure that students train their members to spread the gospel.

The more congregations engage in evangelism the more people give their lives to Jesus. We thank God that 12 souls obeyed the gospel and were baptized.

Below are the courses taught:

A congregation in Maputsoe, the second-largest town in Lesotho was planted in July. Three church members reside in the same town and were not meeting for Sunday worship. The school had to organize these members and started meeting every Sunday. The attendance is increasing every Sunday. This congregation has great growth potential. Brother Tawanda worships with this congregation regularly. Maputsoe town is about 100km from Maseru, the capital of Lesotho.

The school would also like to thank Brother Keith for liaising with Healing Hands International to drill a borehole at Maseru church where the school operates. The borehole was successfully drilled and installed. Again BVBI Maseru would like to thank Brother Donnie Estep for donating the solar system for the borehole at Sehlabeng church of Christ, a congregation started and overseen by the students. The church is now able to provide water to the community. Thank you all involved.

God bless you

Inaugural graduation in Lesotho

INTRODUCTION

The period of January-March marked a great period in the history of BVBI in Maseru and the church in Lesotho as the school had its first graduation. One of the students was ordained as an elder. Donnie Estep visited and 7 baptisms were recorded. These and more are reported hereunder.

1.0   ORDINATION

On the 7th of January 2024, Likhama Leuta, one of the students was ordained in the office of Eldership. Likhama is a serving member of the Lesotho Defense Forces and holds the rank of Warrant Officer Class 1. During the ordination, the army delegation came to witness the occasion and they were pleased to see their serviceman ordained. The school and the church were praised by the army delegation for the good work of producing such great preachers like Likhama Leuta. Maseru church of Christ has 4 Elders now.

2.0   GRADUATION

The graduation ceremony was a historic event in the churches of Christ in Lesotho, the first of BVBI in Maseru. This took place on the 10th of March 2024 at Maseru church of Christ premises. The main reason the graduation was held on a Sunday was to motivate church members to join the school and also to pass the message to other congregations that this is a serious school, not Bible study. This has attracted several people who promised to enroll in April. 9 men and a lady graduated with an Advanced Diploma in Biblical Studies. The names are as follows:

1.       Moalosi Solomon Monyane

2.       Likhama Peter Leuta

3.       Moshe Libe Ts’oene

4.       Neo Johannes Ramonyenyane

5.       Mekhoa Phiela

6.       Tsokolo Anthony Moliko

7.       Tankiso Raphaelo Rahlao

8.       Tankiso Edwin Mohono

9.       Motse Christe Kolobe

10.   Paballo Mateboho Ramokhele

The school would like to thank Brother Donnie Estep for donating the funds to buy the graduation gowns. The students looked great in those gowns. The gown remains the school property.

 2.1 VISITOR

The school was privileged to have a brother Donnie Estep as the guest speaker at the graduation ceremony. BVBI in Maseru appreciates the services he rendered and the sermon he preached at the Maseru church of Christ. Lesotho welcomes you all.

3.0   CURRICULUM

Three courses have been covered: In January Brother Robert taught the epistles of John, in February, Tawanda taught the New Life Behaviour, and in March Brother Tawanda also taught Old Testament 1. On average 15 students attended each of these three courses.

4.0   EVANGELISM

Students are engaged in evangelism. The school is planning to establish two more congregations in Maputsoe about 80-100km from Maseru and Sebalabala village about 75km from Maseru. The students and the instructors have gone to these two places several times for evangelism and the response is overwhelming. In Maputsoe there are about 6 Christians who are not meeting for worship. The school is mobilizing these Christians and other prospects so that they can start meeting on Sundays. If the funds allow, BVBI in Maseru would want to send four students, two to each of these congregations to help conduct services and as a way to practice what they are learning. The school is eager to have more campaigns and plant more congregations provided funds are available.

As a result of the evangelism the school is doing locally, 7 souls were added to the church through baptism.

5.0   BOREHOLE

The school requested a borehole and thank God, in March, Healing Hands International drilled a borehole at Maseru church of Christ premises where the school is operating. The school would like to thank Brother Keith for liaising with the HHI. The school and the church have access to clean and drinkable water.

CONCLUSION

The school is thankful to God and the sponsors for the great work of partnering with us to train preachers in Lesotho. Thank you all involved, the school's prayer is to engage in more evangelism and plant more congregations in Lesotho. Pray for Christians as Lesotho is currently experiencing drought.

Lesotho staff and students train young people to evangelize

December was a blessed month, 13 students have obeyed the gospel through baptism. I organized youth camps in December and they were successful.

I organized the first youth camp that was held at New Millenium School from the 22nd of December to the 27th of December. 70 youth attended this first conference. The second was held at Maseru church of Christ from the 24th of December to the 26th of December. 52 young people attended the second youth camp.  The main aim was to teach these young people to be intentional in sharing the gospel with their peers.  Without a doubt, the youths were equipped and trained to maximize their God-given potential to become intentional in winning the lost.

I also invited Bright from Zambia who is currently working with the Gospel Chariot to assist me in training the students and youth on how to share the gospel with others. This was his second time to come and equip students with simple tools to share the gospel in 2023. These tools for evangelism have helped the students to be evangelistic and as a result, more souls have been saved in 2023. A total of 63 souls have been saved in 2023. This is the highest number of baptisms in a year that the school has recorded since its establishment in 2019. I strongly recommend that other schools in different countries adopt these evangelism tools in their curriculum. The results are tremendous when these evangelism tools are implemented. It is my prayer that 2024 will be a blessed year with more evangelism and discipleship.

There is a lot of work to be done in Lesotho. I see Lesotho as a virgin land for the gospel. The country has 10 districts of which the church of Christ is only in the 3 districts. My long-term goal and desire is to see that each district has at least a congregation. Therefore, there is a great need to produce preachers who will be working in those established congregations.

In December 13 souls were baptized. What a good number to end the year with. Thank you for partnering with us to train preachers in Lesotho.

May God bless you in 2024. I pray that 2024 will be a year of evangelism, discipleship, and church multiplication.

Your brother

Tawanda Mwadiya, a Zimbabwean missionary in Lesotho.

Lesotho, Maseru students describe the impact of the school on their lives

The period from January to April has been a blessing. Two BVBI International directors visited the school. 4 baptisms were recorded. Four more students have joined. The students testify about how the school has changed their lives.

In January the school was blessed to host Brother Mark Reynolds. He had time to encourage and motivate the students. In March, Brother Keith Kasarjian visited the school and had a wonderful time with the students for two days. Both Mark and Keith had an opportunity to preach at Maseru church of Christ on a Sunday. According to Sesotho culture, every visitor is supposed to be given a Sesotho name. Mark was named Lerato (Love), after preaching a wonderful sermon on love. Keith was named Karabo (Answer) because it had been a long time since Lesotho prayed for a Bible School and God answered through Brother Keith. It was indeed a blessing to have them in Lesotho and the school hopes to host you again soon.

Four more students have joined the school. Palamang Litsie from Sehlabeng church of Christ, that’s about 20km from Maseru. Litsie is one of the leaders at Sehlabeng church. BVBIL students have been instrumental in the inception of this congregation, thus every Sunday two students are sent there to lead the services. Makhotla Mafatle and Ramatsitsi Khothatso are from Hamamathe church of Christ which is about 55 km from Maseru. Again this congregation was started by the efforts of BVBIL students and instructors. Matiisetso Tlhabi is from Maseru church. The school plans to train these men from Sehlabeng and Hamamathe so that they can be preachers of their respective congregations.

The school is jubilant to report that four souls have been saved during this period. 64 prospects have been engaged by the students, and over 200 WBS introductory lessons have been distributed. Denominational Doctrines, Bible Geography, and Personal Evangelism 3 were taught during this period. The book of Revelation was taught in December 2022, but because students need to fully understand it, the instructor decided to increase the course time to the first two weeks of January. Thus, from January to April, only 3 courses were taught.

The school instructor, Robert, was involved in a car accident, even though the car was badly damaged, thanks to God, Robert came out alive with just minor scratches.

This is what the students have to say concerning the impact BVBIL has on their lives:

Moses Tsoene, “The BVBI has made me realize that I have to work more upon my spirit for this has shown how much I really don’t know my Christian belief and therefore I must work even harder to become more understanding of God and His intentions upon myself. It’s an inspiration to serve Him the way and effectively tell others about this amazing God.”

Likhama Leuta, “BVBIL lessons have taken me to another level in terms of spiritual growth. I am now more rooted in Christ than before. But what amazes me more is the feeling and desire to learn more that the school has arisen inside me. That is something I did not have before. Like at work, I have improved so much that positive things are happening for me. I thank God for this opportunity. I went to this school for God’s work but I get the bonus of positivity in my personal life.”

Motse Kolobe, “Khotsong bana’beso.ruri ha ke tsebe moo ke lokelang ho qala teng ha ke bua ka seo sekolo see see entseng bophelong baka, leseli Leo ke le fumanang sekolong Mona le mpha t’sepo ea hore thuto ea nnete ekeke ea timela..ruri ke motlotlo ka Bear valley Institute.” Translation “Peace be with you, brethren. I really don't know where to start when I talk about what this school has done in my life, the information I get from school here gives me hope that true education will not perish…really I am proud of Bear Valley Institute.”

Mapule Kaeane, “The school has transformed my life a lot! It helped me to know the depth of reading the Bible and praying to God with a clear mind. Bear Valley helped me to discern the truth from lies or heresy. Whether I listen to or read religious articles, I can differentiate a true Christian or just a joker pushing his or her interest. I thank God and our teachers who work hard to see that we students are filled with truth and will never blame anyone but ourselves for not doing what is expected of us as Christians.

Thato Leuta, “The school has greatly impacted me in a positive and somehow negative way. POSITIVELY: I now appreciate a healthy Christian Life more. I appreciate what Jesus The Christ did for me on the cross. I have learned that there is more to scripture than just a written message. I now understand my obligation as a Christian (Great Commission). I now understand that God’s commands are not optional; love one another, forgive others, do good to others, etc. I now understand that the Bible has a lot in it. That it covers every aspect of our daily lives. I wish I could learn the Word of God till the end of time. NEGATIVELY: I have become too judgmental.  It saddens me a lot when; the “brothers” misinterpret the scriptures because they are hesitant to come to school. Church ladies see school as something for the brothers only. When Christians seem to be spiritually malnourished and when we have all the necessary nutrients at our disposal. The school is the best.”

Makhotla Mafatle, “Bear Valley Bible Institute has helped me to discern the Truth and the Error, it has fueled my devotion to God and passion for Sharing the Gospel to others, (the great commission). It has helped me to use the knowledge to Glorify God and help the lost. I developed passion, interest, and hunger to study and read the Bible and appreciate the holy Scriptures. It has helped me to defend my faith and spiritual growth. It has helped how to minister in a congregation. It has helped to put in practice the examples of Conversations in the book of Acts.”

Thank you for the financial and spiritual support.

More baptisms in Lesotho

Greetings from BVBI Lesotho. Thank you for your prayers, Lesotho held peaceful, and harmonized elections on the 7th of October. The country has a new government and we pray it will rebuild the collapsed economy.

Three courses were taught from September to November. In September, Tawanda taught the book of Romans and 8 students attended. In October, 10 students were taught Church History by Tawanda, while 9 students attended Congregational Development in the subsequent month. Brother Robert is expected to teach the book of Revelation in the month of December.

In this reporting period the attendance of students was lower than other months. The reason being, 2 of our students are active soldiers, they had promotional training for more than 2 months, hence, they could not attend the classes. Another student got a new job which requires him to be at work during the weekends. While the other student is nursing her mother in-law who is critically ill. As BVBIL we pray for her mother in-law’s full measure of health so that the student will come back to class.

3 baptisms were recorded and a soul restored to Christ. Among the 3 souls is an 83 year old lady. As a school we are grateful to participate in what God is doing in Lesotho. Continue to pray for the success of the school

Students show appreciation for the school in Lesotho

JANUARY-APRIL REPORT 2022

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. The school is still in the right direction of training competent preachers who have the zeal and energy to share Jesus with others. Therefore, as the school marks 36 months of its existence in Lesotho, so far, 3 congregations were established, 38 souls were restored to Christ and 40 souls have obeyed the gospel through baptism. In this reporting period, BVBI Lesotho was fortunate to have two visitors. 4 courses have been taught and one restoration was recorded.

In February the school was fortunate to receive Brother Keith Kasarjian. He met with all the students, and instructors and he motivated and encouraged them with the Word. Indeed, it was a great time for both the students and the instructors. In March, Brother Donnie visited the school and he had an opportunity to go for evangelism in Sekamaneng village. The school is thankful for the impact the visitors had on us and our community. May you visit again brothers.

The school is glad to inform you that a soul was restored to the church of Christ. The instructors are happy with the progress observed in the students. The following statements are what the students had to say concerning the impact of BVBIL on them:

Moses Tsoene, ‘I am grateful for the positive impact the school has on me, I have been teaching the Zionist church the gospel for a long time, if it was not because of the knowledge I am getting from school I could have quit. The school is preparing me to be a determined and committed servant of God’

Paballo Ramokhele, ‘The school has helped me in such a way that I can be able to teach others the gospel. Many people want to share the gospel but they lack Biblical knowledge. I thank the school’

Thankiso Rahlao, ‘I am a better person than I was before BVBI came to Lesotho. The school has made a great impact on me’

The school is thankful to Brother Donnie Estep who donated money to buy the t-shirts for the students and the instructors. Thank you for the monthly financial support you give us.

More conversions in Lesotho

JUNE-AUGUST REPORT (Maseru, Lesotho)

Greetings brothers and sisters in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We would like to thank God for His love and mercies He continuously showers upon us. We are jubilant to report the following:

The School is still in the right direction of training competent and doctrinally sound preachers. We currently have 14 students who are dedicated to learn and spread the gospel. Despite the economic challenges the country is experiencing, these men and women commit themselves to study His Word and spreading the gospel. Out of their initiatives, the students are evangelising in Maputsoe about 100 km from Maseru and HaMmamathe approximately 55km from Maseru.

Maputsoe is the second largest town after Maseru, which used to have a congregation in the early 80s. BVBIL students are doing their best to evangelise the area with the hope of restoring the church in that town. Evangelism in HaMmamathe was fruitful, 4 people were baptised and as a result, a congregation was established. Some brothers are helping this new congregation with ministering every Sunday. The school long term plan is to establish a congregation in every town of Lesotho. Out of ten towns in this kingdom, only three towns have a single congregation each. Of all the eleven congregations in the entire kingdom, seven of them are in Maseru. Therefore, the school’s mission of training preachers is to equip them with Bible knowledge so that they can be labourers in the vineyard.

In June the students were equipped with Bible knowledge from First Corinthians which was taught by Tawanda. In July and August, Tawanda taught Life of Christ and First and Second Peter respectively. As of now, the students have covered more than half of their syllabus. Keep praying for the school, economic and political stability of Lesotho as polls will be cast next year.

The school would like to thank you for the monthly financial support we get. This money helps to cater for administrative and evangelism purposes.

In His arms,

Tawanda

Pressing on in Leostho despite challenges

The school started 2021 well although we lost one of our students. BVBIL
temporarily suspended physical classes for two weeks because of the
national lockdown. Two baptisms were recorded and one restoration.

It is with sad heart that I inform you about the passing on of one of our
students brother Ramphielo on the 14th of January. Brother Ramphielo
travelled to South Africa together with brother Moliko (BVBIL student) for
a day, when they returned they were both sick. Within some few days brother
Ramphielo passed on and brother Moliko was hospitalized and he recovered.
Brother Ramphielo was one of the students who contacted Wednesday radio
programmes, he was also instrumental in organising the December evangelism
campai/gns in Quoling where the school plans to establish a congregation.
The school dearly misses him.

On the 14th of January Lesotho went on another two weeks national lockdown.
It was strictly no movement, churches, schools and other public gatherings
were banned. During those two weeks of lockdown the school delivered the
lessons online, using WhatsApp.

Lesotho has recorded 10523 cases and 308 death (8 March statistics). From
the 23rd of February to 8 March 2021, the nation has recorded an average of
5 cases per day, which is good news to us. Even though the country is
currently recording few cases, Lesotho is anticipating a third wave around
June, which would possibly mean another national lockdown.

In January brother Tawanda taught the book of James, we started the course
with 13 students and finished with 11. In February brother Tawanda taught
the New Testament church and 12 students attended the class.

The current students attendance in 2021 is 11 from 13 last year, another
student brother Lintsa has temporarily suspended classes because his mother
is critically ill. He promised that he will be back in class when the
mother recovers. The school has been visiting the mother and brother Lintsa
for prayers and encouragement.

In Spite of all these challenges, the school is still in the right direction to train competent students who are sound doctrine and capable of teaching others.

During the period of January and February, the school recorded two baptisms
and one restoration.

BVBIL is still looking for assistance with a laptop for class and
administrative purposes. The one the school owned was stolen on the 30th of
October 2020 during the burglary which happened at Maseru church Office,
the premises which the school is using. A laptop will be used for
PowerPoint presentations and administrative work which includes recording
students' transcripts and reports.

Finally, the school wants to pass its gratitude for all the support you
render to it. On behalf of the school, I appreciate you and your endeavours
to make BVBIL a success.

In His arms,

Tawanda Mwadiya

Being creative in Lesotho

JUNE-AUGUST 2020 REPORT

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

We wish to express great gratitude for the assistance BVBI International has granted to us for establishing the Bible School here, which continued in financial assistance, helping us to run the school smoothly. We are also thankful for your help to connect us with Heart to Heart, House to House, as well as World Bible School, even though we haven’t yet received any material from them.

In spite of the global pandemic, the congregations in Lesotho are grateful for the impact the school has since it was established in May 2019. BVBIL students were instrumental in organizing house churches, circulating sermons and Bible studies on our social media platforms during the first and second lockdowns which happened in March-early May and three weeks of end of July to early August. We are grateful to report that despite the fact that we are encountering series of lockdowns and social restrictions, the school has a great determination to produce competent and doctrinally sound preachers.

Three courses were taught from June-August, with an average of 13 students and 3 observers. Elder Vincent Shata taught the book of Galatians in June, Robert Likhang taught Leadership in July. The course was completed via WhatsApp audios and videos after the churches were prohibited to gather together. There is always a solution in every problem, hence, BVBIL students during the second lockdown resolved to gather in the small groups of twos in their houses, listening, watching lectures and studying together. This arrangement came as a result of: some students are less privileged materially, they do not have smart phones therefore, the haves had to share with the have nots. Similarly, Tawanda Mwadiya used the same media platform the first two weeks of August when he was teaching Pastoral Counselling.

During the period of June to August, 5 baptisms were recorded, one restoration and 500 Heart to Heart copies were distributed. In the same period BVBIL students engaged 65 people and 102 lessons were taught on air, in groups and one on one.

The school is thankful for your support both financially and spiritually. We are hoping that World Bible School will soon send us materials so that we can enhance our evangelism. Keep praying Lesotho and the school.

Good work in Lesotho

MARCH-MAY REPORT 2020

INTRODUCTION

Grace and peace from our Father and Lord Jesus Christ. The school has
resumed its operation after a month of inactive. The class attendance
has been affected negatively after six weeks lockdown. Homiletics and
Holy Spirit are the two courses taught in March and May. Five baptisms
were recorded and a single restoration.
HOW THE LOCKDOWN HAS AFFECTED THE SCHOOL?
On the 29th of March 2020, Lesotho went under national lockdown for
six weeks. Schools and churches were not allowed to operate hence, we
temporarily closed BVBIL for the period mentioned above. Although we
were encouraging the students to read their notes, posting quiz on the

BVBIL WhatsApp group, nothing much was done during the national
lockdown. We were fortunate that in February we had two courses which
were taught, the weekend class and the weekdays evening class.

The national lockdown has also affected our class attendance in May a
lot of people lost their jobs and some who were fortunate are
earning  50% salary, which caused some students to work on weekends
therefore,  absent in class. Although it will take time, our prayers
and hope is  that things will get back to normalcy so that we can have
all our  students in class.

                                   COURSES TAUGHT

Brother Robert Likhang taught Homiletics to 18 students in the month
of March 2020. The students appreciate the knowledge and experience
they are gained through BVBIL, three students have so far presented
their sermons at Maseru church of Christ after they are taught the art
of preparing and delivering a sermon. Not only are the students
happy  about the knowledge they are receiving, the church appreciates
too.
On the 29th of March, brother Tankiso Mohono preached from the book of
1 Cor 3, he did exceptionally well. Prior to his sermon, one of the
elders did not like brother Mohono to preach the reason being, he was
not eloquent in speech but after he delivered the sermon, the elder
went in front of the congregation cried and confessing that he was
wrong. The elder thanked the school for the good work it is doing to
produce competent preachers
.
Brother Tawanda taught Holy Spirit to 13 students in May 2020. The
school chose Holy Spirit as one of its elective courses because in
2013-2014 the church in Lesotho split, some believed miracles,
speaking in tongues and healing are the spiritual gifts which God is
currently giving to Christians, while another believed in the
cessation of those gifts. The students who were present benefited,
they are able to differentiate the pre-canon gifts and post-canon
ones, they can tell when the miraculous gifts ceased based on 1
Corinthians 13:8-13.

                           BAPTISMS AND RESTORATION

Before lockdown, one of our students, borther Leuta has been
evangilising in Ladybrand (South Africa), we were happy to be informed
by the brethren in Ladybrand that in April, four souls were added in
Christ’s body. In Maseru one soul put on Christ in baptism and one
restoration was recorded in May.

                                      CONCLUSION

Our desire to spread the word of God in every town and village of
Lesotho can be possible with your assistance to establish a World
Bible School in Lesotho. Like other Southern African countries where
WBS is active, congregations can be planted, churches can be grown and
communities can be transformed, so as in Lesotho, with the
involvement  of WBS and BVBIL, great things can happen.  Looking
forward to hear  from you and at the end it is all in God’s hands. Amen.

Inspiring testimonies in Lesotho!

SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER 2019 REPORT

Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. I would like to thank God and everyone who is behind the success of BVBIL, your support both spiritually and materially is well appreciated. BVBI-Lesotho had a visiting instructor, the school also held its first outreach. One soul has been won to Jesus. Students are doing well in their studies and personal work, teachers are impressed with their performance in and outside class. One of our students lost a mother and the other one lost a grandmother.

On the 31st of August 2019, brother Donnie Estep visited the school, he taught the Scheme of Redemption on the 31st and the 1st of September, Brother Tawanda took over the class for the remaining weeks. Brother Donnie also preached on the 1st September at Sehlabeng church of Christ, one of the newly established congregations which is well looked after by our students. BVBIL and the church appreciate his visit and the work he did in Lesotho.

On the 28th of September the school had its first outreach at Sekamaneng village in Maseru. The students under the supervision of brother Tawanda Mwadiya had door to door evangelism for 6 hours. 35 lessons were taught, 46 people were engaged and one obeyed the gospel through baptism. Students are making the follow ups to the potential prospects on their own time. The school is planning to have another outreach in Sehlabeng village before the year ends.

One of our students (brother Moliko Moliko) lost a mother, she was 84 years old and Khauhelo also lost a grandmother in October. The students led the prayer services starting from Wednesday up to Saturday on both funerals and 8 sermons were preached during these two funerals. From September to October BVBIL students taught 28 Bible classes on Sundays, 10 Sunday School lessons, 25 lessons on giving and Lord’s supper and 30 sermons were preached in 5 congregations.

The teachers are impressed with the performance of the students in and outside class. Most of the students are matured, hence, they are committed with school work, so as in spreading the gospel in Lesotho. Among the students is an elder at Maseru church of Christ who has been greatly impacted by the school, he has become an instrument in spreading the good news.

This is what other students have to say about the school:

“The school helped me to understand that God is real and everything am facing, like any kind sin surrounding me am going to defeat it because I am given power by Lord Jesus. It also helped me understand that my duty is to obey God’s instructions and His duty is to keep His promise”- Ltlhare.

“I thought I knew the Bible up until my first day in class, that is when I realized that I don’t know anything. Thank you Bear Valley Bible Institute Lesotho.”- Moliko

“I can’t believe that we are now able to go to other congregations to preach and well received. Thank you brother for making it happening, thank you for bring the Bible school in Lesotho”-Ramphielo

“Bear Valley Bible Institute will unite churches (Congregations) in Lesotho, one day the church is going to be big and strong as you always tell us that the church is big and strong in Zimbabwe. I am seeing it coming, thank you BVBIL”- Khauhelo

“My brother in Christ, I am grateful for all your efforts in making sure that we now have Lesotho Bear Valley Bible Institute, after every class I thank God that I have the opportunity to learn His Word, the interaction with brothers from our sister congregations as scholars is very importantly narrowing the gap which for a long time existed between us, and it is promoting the fellowship amongst us, thank you brother, our chief Shepherd  is aware of everything and will reward you at the right time.”-Likhama Leuta.

The church in Lesotho has not been united for about two decades, to the point where by congregation A cannot fellowship with congregation B and one from congregation C cannot be invited to preach at congregation D, not because of doctrinal issues but matters of opinions. Thank God, BVBIL has imparted unity among the students, hence, the congregations are starting fellowshipping with one another.

Another method of evangelism that would be effective for our students and our community, more especially those who are busy, is the distribution of WBS booklets. Some prospects are busy to the point that they cannot give our students a chance to sit and discuss the Word of God and some prefer to study alone. Despite the fact that someone is busy that should not deprive that person to hear the gospel, hence, WBS would be of great benefit in this regard. The World Bible School courses would also be issued to High schools, colleges and prisons. BVBIL students will be making the follow ups and as a result, one on one Bible study can be initiated. In addition, this will also broaden the base for prospects.

If the school can have access of the WBS materials that would accelerating the spread of the gospel in Lesotho. The current challenge is that there is no WBS office in Lesotho and the school does not know where to get the materials, therefore, if there is a church or individual or an organization that can provide us with WBS materials, BVBIL will greatly appreciate that.

In conclusion, BVBIL is impacting the students, teachers, congregations and the community at large. On behalf of BVBIL, I am grateful to participate in what God is already doing in Lesotho. The school is kindly requesting for WBS materials. Once again, I would like to thank everyone who is behind the success of the school.

In His arms,

Tawanda Mwadiya

Donnie Estep's report

                           2019 (August-September) Southern Africa Report

The work in southern Africa is going very well.  I was greatly encouraged as I was able to visit five of our Bear Valley schools, including one of our newest schools which began in May of this year in Maseru, Lesotho! The other schools in addition to Lesotho were Gweru, and Harare in Zimbabwe, Luanshya, Zambia and Ekwendeni, Malawi.  Although it was a busy, full schedule it was also very productive.  I am so thankful and appreciative to all who have contributed to our efforts in training local preachers to teach the Gospel as we seek to fulfill our Lord’s commission to make disciples in all the world (Matthew 28:19-20).

The first school I visited was in Maseru, Lesotho.  This school is one of our newest extended programs, meeting every weekend on Saturday and Sunday. This allows the student to work full time while attending the Bible school on the weekends. Although it will take twice as long to complete the course work it allows the student to continue to support his family as he pursues a Bible education. I have found these students are often more mature in age and in their faith. In addition, many are already leaders within the local congregations having a desire to grow and mature in their knowledge of God’s word and in their service for the church.  I was very pleased to discover one of the elders in the Maseru congregation attending my class. What a great example for others to see the need to grow in their knowledge of God’s Word.

Tawanda Mwadiya is our director at BVBI-Lesotho and is doing a great job in teaching and directing the school. Tawanda, additionally, works with and preaches for the Maseru church of Christ along with Vincent M. Shata.  Vincent teaches for the school, but he is also the preacher and one of the elders of the congregation in Maseru. This congregation has graciously allowed us to use their building to operate the school.  I taught the Scheme of Redemption to 17 students on August 30th and September 1st.  In addition, I had the privilege that Sunday to preach in a young congregation, that the students and preachers have established, just outside the city limits of Maseru. The congregation is called the Sehlabeng church of Christ. I was very impressed with the unity of all these brethren and work being done by the school, staff, students and churches in Lesotho. I am excited about the work and growth in Lesotho!

Finishing there, I traveled to Gweru Zimbabwe, via Johannesburg, South Africa to Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, then driving the 2 hours to the school in Gweru.  Although the students were not in school that first week in September, as they were all out in the local congregations getting much needed practical work, nevertheless it was a productive visit.  Matthew Muchingami, our director, met me at the airport, and we were able to visit some of the students that were working near Bulawayo. This is part of their work and training as preachers. This work is reviewed and assessed as a prerequisite in order to graduate from the program. The local churches provide housing for the students and feed them as they evangelize and conduct Bible studies day to day.  It is a win/win for the school and the local churches as the students get much needed practical work and the local churches are encouraged and helped as their membership increases in number and in faith!

I was able to visit with Matthew and discuss with him the work in general, in addition, we visited the property that was given to the school by the government where there is much work and planning being done. Two wells (bore holes) have been drilled complete with solar powered pumps. Much of the land has been/is being cleared. A small guard house has been constructed along with a larger building that may serve as a classroom and library in the near future. The foundation for the school is now completed that will house the students as well as classrooms. This has all been accomplished with a minimal amount of funding.

Some of the benefits of moving to this property will be additional space that will allow us to increase the student enrollment to 20 students or possibly even more in the future. The 600 dollars monthly rent that is currently being paid can go toward finishing the construction of the property. Once that is completed there will be a savings of 7200 dollars a year.  Having such a large piece of land (8 Hectors) allows the school to grow much of their own food as well as raise livestock. The students can learn farming and agricultural techniques in addition to getting a good Bible education.  I was excited to see all that is being done and the hard work that has been invested by the staff, students, board and local congregations as they partner together!

The financial situation in Zimbabwe continues to be a major challenge and, if anything, seems to have worsened since the removal and now death of its leader, Robert Mugabe. It is nearly impossible to get more than 20-50 dollars a day from the bank. The lines are much too long, often taking hours to withdraw even a small amount of currency. Because of this, I carried with me three months support sent to me by Woodland Oaks the overseeing congregation. Despite the difficulties these Christians are facing, they are working hard and continue to plan and develop strategies for the future. The church continues to grow in number and in faith as they go forth evangelizing!

On Thursday September 5th Matthew and I drove the 4 hours to Harare to visit our sister school and meet with, our director, Howard Suwari and his family.  I wanted to see how things are progressing with the school and the students, and as I suspected, they continue to do extremely well.  As I mentioned earlier, the students in the extended programs, overall, seem to be more mature in their faith and generally make up the leadership in the local churches. It is always impressive to me to see these men and woman continue to want to grow and develop in their faith and love for God. The school is doing well consisting of about 27 students overall, 20 men and 7 ladies.  And, of course Howard and his lovely family continue to work hard serving the local church and directing the school. I always enjoy visiting this family, their love for the Lord is evident.  I am so grateful for their hospitality that is shown to me.  Even though my stay was brief, I so much enjoyed being with this godly family.

Following my visit to Zimbabwe my next stop was to Zambia to teach during the second week of September.  Luanshya, Zambia is in the northern part of the country near the border of the Congo. I taught 2 Corinthians this time, already having taught 1 Corinthians early this year (February). The students all did very well, and they seem to be growing and maturing in their faith and in their teaching and preaching. I always enjoy attending chapel services in the morning and hearing the students present lessons and lead the worship in song. They are doing an outstanding job as they continue to grow! Fred and Cephas along with Kennedy have done a good job teaching and developing these young men and leading them on evangelistic campaigns throughout the year.  I was very pleased to see them growing and moving forward.  I had time to talk with Fred and Cephas about the work and their future plans and it seems they are making extra efforts to be more evangelistic in the community, in the local churches, and throughout the copper belt region.  It was a pleasure being there during the second week of September.

On Saturday September 14th I flew from Ndola, Zambia to Lilongwe, Malawi where Ephron Mbano, our director, was there to meet me. We drove the 4 ½ hours north to Ekwendeni where the school is located, and I stayed with Mbano and his family. I am so thankful for him, and his wife Beauty, and their 2 children, they always take such good care of me. I taught the Prison Epistles that week and the students all did outstanding. They were even more enthusiastic than usual seeing they were graduating that Saturday.  I have so much enjoyed and appreciated these 13 students. They have done well having transitioned from the school in Mzuzu and moving 30 minutes north to Ekwendeni.  We started with 15 students but 2 of them dropped out along the way. However, these men I am confident will go forth preaching Gods Word as they extend and defend the faith. Mbano and Clergynton have well prepared these men to be faithful Gospel preachers!

On September 21st the students received their Advanced Diplomas in Biblical Studies from BVBI-Ekwendeni, Malawi. The ceremony went very smoothly, and we had guests from 2 other schools of preaching and representatives from 4 or 5 of the local congregations as well as former students who made up the first graduating class. The students and all who were in attendance was very pleased with the ceremony as we enjoyed a delicious meal afterwards.

During my time in Malawi I also had the opportunity to preach in Mbano’s home village. I loved meeting these good folks and the local preacher is doing an outstanding job. He is a former graduate of Mzuzu Bible College. The churches in Malawi, although impoverished, are strong and growing spiritually. The potential is tremendous!

When I think of the work in Africa, overall, I am reminded of our Lord’s words when he said, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest” (Luke 10:2). I am truly thankful to all those who support me both financially and, in your prayers, as we work together to fulfill God’s purpose in saving souls. Thanks to Woodland Oaks church of Christ, Williamson Area church of Christ, Main Street church of Christ (Pikeville KY), Otsego church of Christ and Ben Creek church of Christ as well as individual Christians.

I left Johannesburg, South Africa on September 24th and returned home on the25th. I could not have asked for a better or more pleasant trip. Everything went smoothly and the weather was ideal during my time there. I am also grateful to be working with Bear Valley Bible Institute in Denver Colorado, we now have 40 extension schools throughout the world as we train men to preach the Gospel. The school in Lesotho is making a difference

JULY-AUGUST REPORT

The teachers are pleased with the students’ performance in and outside class. Students have engaged with more prospects and some souls were added to the church. Evangelism weekend is set to be on the 28th of September 2019.

The students have dedicated their lives to study the word of God. Their performance in class shows how serious they are to know more about God’s word and to proclaim it. Not only are they excelling in class but also in their respective congregations. The school continues to receive testimonies from different congregations pertaining the impact our students have in their assemblies. Hence, the teachers are happy with the performance of the students.

Maseru church of Christ has this year established two congregations, one in Sehlabeng and the other one in Ladybrand (South Africa). The church sometimes sent some students to assist these two congregations. As a result, Sehlabeng and Ladybrand church of Christ appreciate the services provided by BVBILesotho, they would like the students to visit them every week but due to financial constraints that would not happen now. The students who sometimes visit these assemblies confessed that the opportunities they got to preach was one of the ways to practice what they learn in class. Therefore, the teachers would want all students to have chances to preach and teach mainly in these two congregation.

About 50 prospects have been engaged with BVBIL students. Moshe Tsoene and Vincent Shata are continuing with their series of Bible study with Sekamaneng Apostolic church in Zion. The attendance has increased to 16. Likhama Leuta has organized a Bible study with two soldiers who have high ranks in Lesotho army, the studies have been going on for two weeks now.

Moliko Moliko, Motlatsi Ramphielo and Tankiso Rahlao are doing well on the radio programme, they are also marketing the school on the radio apart from their weekly lessons ‘Why we are the church of Christ’. Sibongile, Senate and Litlhari have been instrumental in organizing Bible studies with young men and young ladies. As a result of that, a young man and a young lady obeyed the gospel and were baptized.

Moholo Lesesa has organized a group of teen boys and Tawanda is helping them with counselling and Bible studies. The topic in July was ‘Who am I?’ and August was ‘Does God care about me?’. These lessons have made great impact in these teens, two put on Christ in baptism.

The school will have its first outreach on the 28th of September 2019, pray for this event to be successful.

In conclusion, the school would want to thank everyone who is behind the success of BVBIL. Our students are engaged in personal work and their influence has impacted the church. We are looking forward to have brother Donnie Estep in September who will be teaching ‘The Scheme of Redemption.

In His arms,

A great start for the new school in Lesotho

MAY-JUNE REPORT

Church of Christ in Lesotho has made great strides in partnership with Bear Valley Bible Institute. Two courses have so far been taught; students are excelling in their class work. One soul put on Christ through personal evangelism by our students.

The church of Christ in Lesotho with the help of Bear Valley Bible Institute has established a Bible school which commenced on the 4th of May 2019. The school started with 17 students in the first course, How We Got The Bible and 20 students in Old Testament 1. Tawanda Mwadiya taught the first course, and the second one was instructed by Vincent Shata.

The school is only two months old but the impact that it has shown seems like it has been existing for more than a year. The students have started to put what they are learning into practice, the school has encouraged every student to find at least a person to study the Bible with, therefore, our students are involved in personal work. There are more than 45 prospects who are having Bible studies with Bear Valley Bible Institute Lesotho students.

The congregations around Maseru have started appreciating the great impact our students are bearing in their communities. Moshe Tsoene and Likhama Leuta are having Bible studies with 14 men and women who belongs a certain denomination called Sekamaneng Apostolic church in Zion. Their topic is ‘The true church found in the Bible’, Moshe Tsoene has been given chances to teach them during their Sunday worship. There is a great potential that souls are going to be won from this denomination.

Motlatsi Ramphielo, Tankiso Rahlao and Moliko Moliko have managed to get a slot on the radio every Sunday at 2100-2200 hours, their topic is ‘Why we are the church of Christ’. This radio programme has a lot of listeners and is engaging many people hence, 5 people have requested for Bible study.

Senate Mosisili and Sibongile Nyamatana have been instrumental in organizing Bible studies. The group that they have managed to organize for Bible studies has now more than 10 young men and young ladies attending. As result of this initiative, a soul has been saved.

Finally, BVBIL would like to thank God and everyone who is behind the establishment of the school. God is at work in Lesotho and we are just participating in what He is already doing. Our students have started to be evangelistic and they are also deeply involved in different ministries in their respective congregations.

In His arms,

Tawanda Mwadiya
